Graffiti Art Project
The Sell It! Workshop teaches methods of taking graffiti style art and making it profitable. Learn to do Graf Design on T's, hats, shoes, keychains, etc. Make sellable art to be sold at the Hip Hop Block Party. The Graffiti Art Project (GAP) is a community-based, social action program intended to curb the problem of graffiti in Corpus Christi through preventative education.
GAP offers youth an opportunity to learn about the history of graffiti, graffiti laws, safety and responsibility. GAP provides the opportunity to learn new painting techniques from experienced artists in a fun and relaxed environment and provides a legal avenue to produce large-scale works of art. Because murals have proven to decrease graffiti in other cities, participants paint a public mural. G.A.P. also includes an exhibition of street-inspired paintings created by experienced artists program and participants and a Hip Hop Block Party. Anyone age 10 years and up may participate.
GAP Workshops are held Saturdays Feb. 20 through April 17, times vary. More information, Curriculum and Workshop Schedule are available at www.kspacecontemporary.org FMI: 887-6834 or email: info@kspacecontemporary.org. Schedule attached. GAP is made possible through funding from the City of Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission and anonymous donors. Sponsors include Grande Communications, House of Rock, KUQI Fox Television, and City Councilman John Marez. Additional components of the program are organized in partnership with Texas A & M University-Kingsville.
