Delectable desserts and gourmet coffee part of event; Scholarship fundraiser is the first in a new series of Alumni events at DMC
Del Mar College alumni will have a chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones and learn about current and upcoming College activities all while sampling delectable desserts during "Decadence," an alumni mixer. The event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 11, on the College's East Campus.
The first in a series of alumni events sponsored by the College's new Alumni Association, "Decadence" runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Center on Del Mar College East, Ayers Street. Admission is a $10 donation to the Alumni Association that will benefit an alumni scholarship for Culinary Arts and Art majors. For more information about the event, call 698-1031.
Becoming a member of the new alumni association is easy, says Yvette Lara, assistant director of alumni services.
"An alumni is anyone who has taken any class - credit or noncredit - at Del Mar College," Lara says. "To sign up, they can log onto our Web page on the College's site. There's no fee to join."

During "Decadence," participants will enjoy desserts prepared by Culinary Arts students, including cream puffs, chocolate and lemon mousse, miniature tarts in Bavarian cream and chocolate, assorted truffles and petit fours, along with gourmet coffee. In Cain Gallery, alumni members can view the annual Tri-Group Exhibition, which features works by the South Texas Art League, Southwest Sculpture Society and the Watercolor Society of South Texas.
Alumni can also bid on Valentine's Day-themed items donated by students from both the Art and Culinary Arts programs during a silent auction.
"This event is the first in a series of events for our Alumni to reconnect on campus while at the same provide the College an opportunity to showcase our talent, facilities and programs in place," Lara adds. "We invite all Del Mar College alumni to come by and reconnect with fellow alumni who also share a common passion and sense of pride for the College."
