YMCA of Corpus Christi
What can the Y help you be in 2010?
New Year's Resolutions. It's once again that time of year where we promise to take better care of ourselves and the ones we love. Some of the key phrases we hear or tell ourselves are to "choose obtainable goals" or "create a game plan." The ability to follow this advice leads to promising results.
This New Year offers much excitement for the YMCA and the members it serves. And like our members, the YMCA has set some goals and games plans to improve how we provide services to you.
Beginning the end of the month we will be installing new equipment, treadmills and weight equipment. The YMCA will also be installing new hot water storage tanks for the boiler. These new storage tanks will be part of the new building project that is scheduled to begin in June 2010.
This year promises to be an exciting time for the YMCA as we continue to offer programs that build spirit, mind and body.
Best of health to each of you during 2010!

New Fitness Equipment Arriving Soon!
The YMCA has recently purchased new exercise and weight equipment. The equipment includes sixteen pieces of new state-of-the-art selectorized strength training equipment from StarTrac, eight treadmills, rubberized free weights and a cable cross-over multi station machine. Our goal is to meet the needs and trends in fitness by providing new equipment as well as expanding the personal services available for our members. The new equipment should be arriving by mid-February.
Come and see for yourself! You'll love the new changes!

Strong Kids Partner With Youth
The YMCA will be kicking off its annual Partner's With Youth Campaign this year with a new Sneakers & T's event in the YMCA gym. The event is free to all inpiduals who participate in the Annual Campaign.
Sneakers & T's will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The evening will feature youth from our programs, a variety of healthy appetizers from area restaurants, and an opening by Bishop Carmody. Participants are encouraged to wear their "favorite" t-shirts and sneakers!
The YMCA mission is to provide programs that teach young people important values through a variety of fun and rewarding activities. Through planned activities children develop valuable skills while gaining confidence and self-esteem. Our mission programs include after school tutoring, Youth and Government, Y-Teen Leaders Clubs, child care, swim lessons and youth sports.
These programs are made possible through the generous donations of YMCA members, friends, corporations, businesses and foundations.
No child should ever be turned away from the YMCA due to financial hardship. The Partner With Youth Campaign provides assistance to children, inpiduals and families who would otherwise be unable to participate in the wholesome activities at the YMCA. Without your help, many of these kids may never know what it feels like to be part of team, part of a caring environment, part of a community.
The YMCA is looking for campaign volunteers. Whether you can give one hour, several hours or would like to give through a monetary donation, please contact Laura Schaberg or the YMCA at (361) 882-1741. No gift is ever too small in the eyes of a child.

YMCA Capital Campaign Needs You
Recently all members received a Capital Campaign brochure introducing the Vision for the Future of our YMCA building concept.
Hopefully, you have read and reviewed all the material. If not, you may review the announcement, along with the campaign details on our website. Along with the booklet, we have placed a large banner affixed to the outside of our building and a hallway display near our cardiovascular equipment room. The booklet, hallway display and banner announces our commitment to a more modern and accessible building for all members.
The intent of the Board is to fast-track our campaign from this point so we can provide notice to proceed to TEAL Construction and schedule our groundbreaking ceremony in June 2010.
Our programs ensure that our young people become educated so they can advance through life without falling back on society for a hand out. You help the YMCA give children a hand up by teaching earning, rather than entitlement. This building is just one tool to make sure inner-city youth have a place to go here in Corpus Christi.
Please join the Board and Capital Campaign Committee and contribute to the YMCA Vision for the Future Campaign. Donations are being taken over a five year period.
For more information, contact Jim Scoville at 361-882-1741 or view our website at www.ymca-cc.org.
New Building Projects to Begin in January
Hot Water Storage Tanks
We can wait no longer. Our 68 year-old hot water storage tank needs to be replaced and renovations will begin on January 20th. The installation will take approximately three - four days. There will be a period of time where the YMCA will be without hot water (as much as two days). Please watch for signs around the building announcing the progress of this project.
The new storage tanks are the first steps in the new building process. They are small components of the upgrade to our mechanical, electrical and plumbing system. Construction updates will be available inside the YMCA as they come along.
